Creating Love Triangles

We've all read those books where there is a love triangle going on between three characters, main or side, and you just don't know who you want to get together in the end. I find those the best kind of love triangles, because if there is always one where you are automatically and always on this one side then it just doesn't feel like a proper love triangle cause you know exactly who you want to end up together and who is going to end up together. Boring, right?

Now, it's time to create love triangles all on your own and make it so that your readers cannot decide who they want to end up together, it makes them more invested in the story this way.

First, you need your main character of the triangle. Usually it's a girl with two boys, but you can switch it up a bit and make a boy with two girls. Let's make a love triangle where it's a boy with two girls, just turn away from the social normal and be ourselves now. Alright, let's make our main character sweet, but he can have a bit of a temper occasionally, especially when it comes to....let's see...how about cookies. This boy we shall call Trent. Trent is a gamer boy, he is really sweet and shy, but he can have a bit of a temper sometimes, especially when it comes to his cookies.

Now, we need two girls for Trent to triangle with. Alright, let's give him his childhood friend Yasmin. She is loves to have fun and is a big jester, but she is also really sensitive about how other people see her. Yasmin plays soccer and always invites Trent to come along with her.

And for the final piece, let's add in Abby. Abby is really shy and loves to read, but she hates open spaces. Let's say she moved to the small town where Trent lives from a big city like New York or LA. She is still trying to adjust and the only person willing to talk to her is Trent.

So, this is our love triangle: Trent, Yasmin, and Abby. Trent and Yasmin have known each other for a long time and Trent had a crush on Yasmin for six years. Now that they're halfway through their third year in high school, they haven't seen much of each other because they have split into their own little social groups, Yasmin to the jocks and Trent to the gamers. Trent meets Abby and decides to help her out at her new school, spending more and more time with her. Yasmin notices this and starts hanging out with Trent more, and inviting him to her games.

Those of you who are more jocks might want Trent to end up with Yasmin, not to mention they have known each other for so long, and sometimes childhood friends make the best couple and they have more in common in the history area. Then again, others of you might want Trent with Abby because you think they're both nerds or geeks, and they might have more in common in the interests area.

Who do YOU think Trent should end up with?

Thing is with love triangles you want the main character to be likable, therefore you must give them some likable characteristics but some faults, because faults make everything more interesting and fun. Same goes for the other two character points of the triangle. But, you have to make sure that the both sides of the triangle can happen, you cannot make a shy guy pick between the crazy wild out of her mind girl and the calm smart girl, he'll probably go for the calm smart girl. Not very often to direct opposites go well together. You need to give them some common interests, whether it's background or what they like or dislike, anything really.

Another mistake to avoid is making them absolutely perfect together, cause a couple without any conflict whatsoever won't last very long, because you NEED conflict to learn and grow closer together.

I want you guys to give it a try, and I want you all to vote on who you think Trent above should end up with. Hope you like this, have a British day -Kac

Spring Break! Is Over?!

Something sad just happened yesterday, spring break ended! But there is an upside to it, it means that there is just over a month left of school and then it is time for summer!! Last week was a blast, though I'm mostly talking about what happened Friday and Saturday. The first part of the week, leading up to Friday, was pretty boring as the only thing I really did was go to the mall once with some friends (shopping NOT allowed, I DESPISE shopping) and we did some fun stuff together there. Friday, I went down to Mesquite with my family and my BFFTLEWE Sam (check out Radio Rebel to understand) and it was a blast! We went swimming in the huge pool at the hotel on Friday and saw the movie Home, which is pretty funny. There was a LOT of picture taking. Saturday, we swam some more and then we went to St. George and went shopping (Sam and I spent most of our time in the Cowboys and Indians store). There was a LOT of picture taking that day as well, especially at the pool and in the ca...
